Katharina Arndt

Katharina Arndt

The focus of Katharina’s artwork lies in the conflict with the graphic quality of culture and the emotional and suggestive power of advertisement.

Following the ideas of the Appropriation Art and Pop Art she works with aesthetic materials like advertising photos, magazine pictures or movie scenes. These original images are copied in detail and then amended and manipulated in colour.

While doing so she tries to highlight the world of commerce, partly as a homage, partly critical. The particular choice of the original images also shows her fascination with beauty and sparkling surfaces.

So far she has used images of celebrities like Kate Moss, Angelina Jolie, Scarlett Johansson, Megan Fox, Pamela Anderson, Marlon Brando, David Beckham and others

The distance and untouchable feeling of those icons is broken by her choice of alien-like colours, thereby offering an opportunity to approach them again like normal humans.
